GDS was established based on a passion and aim to create a company that could deliver complete underground directional drilling solutions to the mining industry, and with a wealth of combined experience and talent, this was realized in 2011.

Initially with two track rigs designed and built to service the Australian industry, it was a specially designed modular system that was the first to go into operation in 2011. This was for Russian oil and gas giant, Lukoil, for use in drilling and casing oil soaked sandstone at its underground operations in Yarega, in the Ukhta region of Russia.

Soon after, a long term services contract with Whitehaven Coal’s Narrabri operation, located in New South Wales, Australia, was awarded to GDS. To date, the Narrabri project has resulted in over 300,000 metres being drilled. Along with supporting contracts at the Wambo and Integra mining operations in the New South Wales Hunter Valley region, and our ongoing relationship through hiring and maintenance service to BHP Appin mining operations in the states Illawarra region. GDS continue to offer a complete and professional service to all our clients and are confident our proven results and performance will continue to expand our drilling programs.

In 2013, GDS won the contract to design, manufacture and supply a new rig system for BHP. In conjunction with the client, GDS created the next generation in drilling technology for introduction to the industry in Australia. GDS currently have a number of rig designs both in use and in development, which are suitable for a range of applications. We are confident that no other competitor is currently able to provide such as specialized product range with exceptional support and proven results.

In 2012, GDS signed a Joint Venture agreement with Jincheng Anthracite Mining Group (JAMG), one of the largest coal producers in China’s Shanxi province, to provide drilling systems for the China market. The agreement was reached to provide JAMG with a leading underground directional drilling product that could be locally produced for the China market.
